The implementation of the ReGlass2Con project has begun. The project is entitled “Lightweight aggregates and functional fillers from recycled glass for construction applications”. The project is funded by the EUROSTARS programme.

In addition to our company, RTD Talos, which is the project coordinator, the following organisations participate:
1. RTD Talos Ltd (CYPRUS)
2. PELETIKO (CYPRUS)
3. InMatLab (GREECE)
4. ENALOS (GREECE)

The project:

The main objective of the ReGlass2Con  project is the development of lightweight functional fillers for renders, mortars, screeds etc via geopolymerization and thermal expansion of waste glass from different origins, for application as an admixture in building materials (plasters, tile adhesives and grout mortars, “cool roof” materials etc.
The final products produced will:
i) be environmentally friendly,
ii) show improved insulating and thermal properties and at the same time
iii) reduce production costs compared to commercial products.

The high-added value materials will meet the specifications and international trends of lightweight and thermal insulation construction, while reducing the environmental footprint. Waste glass, such as e.g. from solar accumulators, glazing, windshields, etc. can easily be transformed (through geopolymerization and low energy thermal expansion) to high added value materials such as lightweight fillers for construction materials, reducing quantities ending in landfilling, contributing to circular economy and building energy efficiency, enhancing local participation in recycling and returning benefits to local communities.

At the same time, the proposed construction materials will exhibit superior properties and lower cost than the existing commercial ones, due to the innovative production process, that includes milder chemical routes and reduced energy consumption.
